WHY KANNADA NEEDS ITS OWN GRAMMAR

The main aim of a grammar is to explain the internal structure of words and sentences that occur in a language. None of the grammars published in Kannada have succeeded in fulfilling this aim. They have all tried to apply the rules of Sanskrit grammar directly to Kannada.

These Sanskrit grammatical rules are totally different from the rules that are actually used by Kannada, and hence, they cannot explain the structure of Kannada words and sentences properly. The present book explains the real nature of the grammatical rules of Kannada and the way in which they are different from the rules that occur in the current Kannada grammars, especially in the grammars that are being taught in schools to children. It would therefore be interesting to those who want to know Kannada grammar,

The original author of the present book, namely D.N.S.Bhat, has also written and published in Kannada a detailed Kannada grammar in seven volumes (and in about 2.200 pages), entitled Kannada barahada sollarime.
