Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle (22 May 1859-7 July 1930) was born in Edinburgh and was a physician and writer well known for creating Sherlock Holmes a household name in the world of detective fiction. Apart from novels like A Study in Scarlet, The Sign of the Four and The Hound of the Baskervilles, and several short-story collections starring Holmes, Doyle also wrote a number of other novels and non-fictional works like The Lost World, Sir Nigel and The Land of Mist.
